This month, enjoy getting in the holiday spirit with some events that will fill you with pride and awe for our great state, starting with Oregon’s Veteran’s Day tribute at the Oregon State Capitol, featuring performances, free flags, and historical World War II displays. Then it’s time to get in the holiday spirit with the annual Christmas in the Garden at the Oregon Garden! Enjoy a million lights, shopping, a beer garden, tubing and ice skating—sounds like the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit to us! 

November 8

This Veteran’s Day tribute is free and open to the public. Help honor our veterans with a performance by the Oregon Spirit Choir and free flags and refreshments. Be sure and stop into the Capitol to see the World War II uniform display by the VFW #661 Uniform Display Museum as well as a special World War II exhibit from the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. Flags will be posted and retired by the North Salem High School Army JROTC Color Guard.

November 8

Get your friends and family the most unique and personal gifts while supporting local artisans! The Holiday Showcase Preview Party is your chance to purchase ceramics, jewelry, traditional art, textiles, tree ornaments, and more from over 50 artists. And while you’re getting your holiday shopping done, you get to enjoy an evening of art, live music, photos with Santa, and food! Entry is free for Salem Art Association members and $10 for nonmembers.

November 28

Start Thanksgiving off right! Join in the Keizer Turkey Dash 5k before you run off to Grandma’s house. This 5K run or walk starts at Keizer Station Village then out and back through the Gubser Neighborhood. Adults get Sport Tech shirts with the entry fee, kids get cotton t-shirts, and the first 700 to register get a finisher’s mug!

When: Registration starts at 7am, Race starts at 8am

November 29 – January 5

Enter a charming winter wonderland and find yourself surrounded by 1 million twinkling lights, live music, artisan vendors, ice skating, snowless tubing and plenty of holiday cheer at Christmas in the Garden, at The Oregon Garden. This event features something for all ages, including the snowless tubing hill, ice skating, a traditional German Christmas market with local artisans, and a beer garden with live music in the Christmas Barn. Prices vary by activity.

Experience ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas like never before! The wild holiday adventures of a mouse, an elf, and a spunky little girl who just won't take no for an answer, on their quest to find out why Santa missed their house last year. A joyful tribute to the holiday season!

Help kick off Holidays at the Capitol with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Enjoy a musical performance from 5 to 5:30 p.m. before the tree lighting ceremony begins. This fun-filled night delights families with a visit from Santa, the Grand Tree coming alive with lights, a model railroad train, free refreshments and more!
