August is an action-packed month in Oregon, as it’s finally hot enough for the water to be warm, and everyone is trying to soak up the last sun of summer before the cool fall rain begins. It just wouldn’t be summer without the State Fair, so don’t miss all the food, fun, rides and attractions this year! And don’t’ miss the last of the Salem Movies in the Park series at Riverfront Park. 

 

August 10 

 Come join us as we explore the many diverse cultures that make up our great state at the center of it all, the Oregon State Capitol. Music, dancing, demonstrations, activities and exhibits feature just a sampling of what Oregon has to offer. This is a family-friendly, and free event open to the public. The tower tour will be given at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. weather permitting and capacity controlled.

 What is more Oregon than trees? A tree festival! The third annual, family friendly, Englewood Forest Festival features local artists, local musicians, local environmental non-profit groups, and food carts, all in the lovely, wooded Englewood Park. Bring the kids for face painting, workshops and more fun!

 Stroll among the lush summer gardens as you savor the notable flavors of some of Oregon’s finest chefs, distillers, micro-brew masters, and winemakers at the Oregon Pairings Event, put on by the Oregon State Fair Foundation. Tickets are $40-50 each. 21 and over only.

Do you enjoy discovering the hidden gems of your city? The Great Salem Race is a family-friendly scavenger hunt of Downtown Salem. You’ll solve clues, complete challenges, and race to the finish line all while exploring Salem with your team! Competitive and casual divisions available. It’s Oregon State Fair time! It’s marching bands, performers, the pedal tractor pulls, petting zoos, concerts, the Alaskan Racing Pigs, Dog Town, need I say more? Oh, I forgot the legendary food. Admission ranges from $1-$8, parking is $5, cash only.
